DEEP SEA INVASION

DSI

3/29/08 02:29 pm - Deep Sea Invasion Store

1/31/08 01:32 am - The Invasion Continues...

I came up with some hidden parameters for the RPM Challenge '08. Since I have an incredible cache of songs started that never came to fruition, I decided to take ten of the oldest deadends as the starting point for the recording. These are pieces that went so wrong initially that I just abandoned them. I intend to completely reinvent them in the process of recording and arranging, even if it means ultimately dumping all the original tracks. It will be interesting to see how far they go, how much changes in one month of intense scrutiny and manipulation.

I start at 12:01am Friday, February 01, 2008

1/28/08 12:37 pm - The Invasion Continues...

I just entered Deep Sea Invasion in The RPM Challenge '08. Starting on Friday, February 1, 2008, I vow to record an album (10 songs and/or 35 minutes of original) by the end of the month. Then it all goes into a database with thousands of other songs. Jump in the ocean!

9/2/07 11:05 am - glitchy

i was perusing my mp3 collection at random yesterday while painting a wall and was surprised and amused at the bloops and beeps and crackles that were coming out of my speakers. at first i thought it was an unfamiliar track by pole or kraftwerk. i stopped my brushing and went over to my itunes and looked up the track. "born on the bayou" by CCR. hmm. i now have my first random glitch music sample. i will dress it up a little and make it more listenable, then share it with you all.

deep sea invasion joined creative commons yesterday. in short order, a selection of my music will be available there for remixing and sountracking at no cost. i hope to make some new friends, play in their sandbox. i know that my friends [info]mystified13 and [info]gurdonark are there, so i know i will be in good company. [info]stateparks, you should check this service out.

8/28/07 09:07 am - "we know all your secrets"

something i'm working on: music for strange children. classical stylings, mostly major, with a minor in minor. my inspiration is ravel's mother goose, which started out as piano pieces he was writing for a friend's children, and it blossomed into a bigger vision with more orchestration. i want my work to be appealing to children as well as adults.

possibly a companion piece to radiation suits for kids and dogs, which is fleshing out into a strictly ambient collection. they may end up sharing themes.

6/22/07 05:04 pm - change of direction

through an ordering snafu at powermax.com, i wasn't able to get a miglia HA02 firewire input device. unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any more available. it was a really good deal at $89USD, and since the reviews were also impressive, too good to last. i guess i will stick to MIDI for the time being.

possible side project: THE GOODBYE WEAPON
project parameters: modular noise outfit, random instrumentation, head:foot original ziggurat speaker system. spirited live performance at high volume to potentially unwilling audience.
personnel: myself as central mixer/ producer, others TBA, volunteers willing to bang or strum instruments TBA on short notice.

6/22/07 04:48 pm - project parameters, a starting point

1. low tuba burst with fast osc wahwah chorus treat
2. bouncy bow-bow beat
3. a simple phrase repeated
4. moog bass hum

5/1/07 11:51 pm - notes on process

bass / guitar > line6 pod > kaoss pad > miglia HA02 > macbook
ipod > kaoss pad > miglia HA02 > macbook
